Cedar Lane House Fire Story
RINGWOOD, NJ - On Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 8:15 a.m. all three Ringwood fire departments and the ambulance where dispatched to 91 Cedar Road for a working house fire. Erskine Lakes Chief 240 (Rich Clarke) radio headquarters for a second alarm to be dispatched as he was still in route due to a large column of smoke in the air.
240 arrived to find a two and a half story, private dwelling well involved. 240 took command as 246 Captain Mike Smith was assigned as operation officer he was assisted by 255 Assistant Chief Pete Lorie and 260 Chief Bart Lidsky.
Erskine Lakes first due Engine 241 marked up and hit the hydrant that was directly across from 91 Cedar. The crew from 241 lead by Captain Tim Bautz and Lt. Matt Ranone went to work with two 1¾ lines through the front door.
Erskine Lakes second due Engine 243, lead by lieutenants Narwid and Casteline, was next in. They laddered the home and vented the roof and windows.
Skyline Lakes Fire Engine 252 arrived and took a 1¾ line to the basement.
All crews were met by large volumes of smoke and fire. Stonetown Tanker 262 nosed up to Engine 241 as a secondary water supply.
The members of all three Ringwood departments would work the fire as the FAST team from Eagle Valley (Tuxedo, NY) arrived. West Milford Engine 3 was called to the scene and took the FAST position and the crew from Eagle Valley went to work on overhaul and hot spots. Ringwood firehouses were covered by West Milford companies 4 and 6 along with a Wanaque engine. The stand by companies ran three alarms during that time.
This was one of eighteen calls Erskine Lakes Fire Department ran in a seventy-two hour period during the snow storm.
